Pre-Market Global Brief — Jun 19, 2026 | Nifty, Nasdaq, Nikkei, DAX & more

Overnight cues are cautiously constructive: a signed US–Iran peace deal reopened the Strait of Hormuz and sent crude tumbling, lifting Wall Street and the rupee — but a hawkish Fed and a five-month-high dollar are the single biggest counterweight, keeping GIFT Nifty signalling a near-flat open for Dalal Street.
US (prior close — Wall St shut today for Juneteenth)
Stocks rebounded Thursday after a rocky, Fed-driven week. The Nasdaq jumped 1.91% to 26,517.93 and the S&P 500 rose 1.08% to 7,500.58, led by chips after Trump flagged an Intel–Apple US chip-design deal (Intel, SanDisk, Super Micro and Marvell all surged double digits). The Dow added 0.14% to 51,564.70. The Fed held rates at 3.50–3.75% in Chair Kevin Warsh's first meeting, but cut growth and raised inflation forecasts — a hawkish tilt that still weighs on rate-sensitive tech.
Asia this morning
- Nikkei 225: ~70,600, easing ~0.6% after Thursday's record 71,053 close.

- Hang Seng: ~23,925, down ~1.6%.
- Shanghai Composite: ~4,090, down ~0.4%.
Europe (prior close)

India lead
GIFT Nifty at ~24,148.5 points to a flat-to-slightly-lower open versus Thursday's Nifty 50 close of 24,168 (+0.34%). The Sensex ended at 77,409.98 (+0.33%), a fifth straight advance, as financials — buoyed by NSE's draft IPO filing — offset IT weakness.
Commodities, currency & yields
- Brent ~$78.3 (-1.5%), WTI ~$75.1 (-2.2%) — lowest since the conflict began.
- Gold ~$4,246/oz, pressured by the strong dollar.
- USD/INR 94.36 (rupee +14 paise on cheaper oil); DXY 100.72, highest since May 2025.
- US 10Y yield 4.46%.
Sentiment & headlines
Tone is risk-on but selective: peace optimism and falling oil support equities, while a hawkish Fed and firm dollar cap gains. Watch: US CENTCOM lifting the Hormuz blockade (US pump prices fell below $4); SpaceX sliding ~10% for a second day post-IPO even as it weighs a $20bn bond and added ex-Sequoia chief Roelof Botha to its board; and India's SEBI board meeting today to consider reviving the open-market buyback window. Lupin rose ~2.5% on a US drug approval.
What it means for the India open
Expect a flat-to-mildly-soft start with a stock-pickers' bias. Cheaper crude and a stronger rupee are clear tailwinds for OMCs, paints, aviation and broader inflation optics, while a hawkish Fed and strong dollar keep IT and FII flows in check. Financials (NSE-IPO ripple), pharma and oil-linked names are the spots to watch.
