Apple's foldable costs $1,999 and AAPL moved 0.28%. Here's who actually gets paid.

Apple finally built a foldable, and its own stock shrugged. AAPL closed at $315.34, down 0.28% on Wednesday, after falling as much as 1.9% during the keynote itself. The order book that actually changed hands was three time zones away.
What landed. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for 256GB — preorders 16 October, on sale 23 October. The iPhone 18 Pro line comes first (preorders 12 September, shipping 18 September) carrying the A20 Pro, the first 2nm smartphone chip, and a $100 higher entry price, $300 more at the 1TB tier.
Who actually gets paid
- Luxshare (SHE: 002475) — assembly allocation reportedly climbs to 33% from 27%, so it builds more boxes per iPhone shipped. It still fell 4.1% to HK$59.35 in Hong Kong today: profit-taking on the event, into a Hang Seng down 1.44% to 24,908 on oil and yields. Share gain, sold anyway.
- Hon Hai / Foxconn (TPE: 2317) — the mirror image of that same reallocation: second-half build share down to 61% from 67%. Same order book, thinner slice.
- Samsung Display — reported sole supplier of the 7.8-inch inner and 5.5-inch outer panels, at prices roughly 20% above what it charges for Samsung's own Galaxy folds. By surface area that is panel volume equal to about 24 million ordinary phones.
- LG Innotek (KRX: 011070) — 55–60% of camera-module volume for the new line; its optical solutions arm is guided to ₩21.5 trillion of revenue, up 17.6%.
- TSMC (NYSE: TSM) — reported sole source of the A20. One customer carrying one 2nm ramp.
The number the whole trade hangs on: supply-chain checks point to 7.5 million foldable units in the second half of 2026 and 4 million in Q1 2027. That is tiny beside Apple's regular iPhone runs, which is the point — at $1,999 this is a content-and-pricing story, not a volume story. Samsung Display's 20% panel premium and LG Innotek's fixed content per handset earn on every unit regardless of how big the ramp gets. The assemblers only earn if the ramp is big.
What flips it: the sticker price. Watch the 16 October preorder window — if Apple trims builds off that 7.5m base, the panel premium and Luxshare's new 33% share get applied to a smaller number and the supplier maths gets worse fast. The earlier tell is 12 September, when iPhone 18 Pro preorders open $100 above last year's entry price.
