Why is DeXe (DEXE) up ~144% today — after an 85% crash?

DeXe (DEXE) — a DAO-governance token that bills itself as an "AI crypto" — is the single biggest gainer in the market right now, up ~144% to about $4.16 in 24 hours on $679M of turnover, per CoinGabbar's July 25 gainers board. But read past the green number: this isn't a comeback. It's a violent bounce off a smoking crater.
What actually happened
Rewind two weeks. A July 9 exchange listing lit a fuse under DEXE, and by July 13 it printed a record high near $48.89 — capping a run of roughly +1,400% on the year. Then it fell apart. On July 22 the token collapsed ~85% in hours, from about $49 to ~$4, after wallets reportedly linked to the team moved around 625,000 DEXE onto Binance and roughly $22M of spot selling set off a cascade of leveraged liquidations (over $2.75M wiped out). "Rug-pull" fears did the rest, and a further ~53% leg down followed on July 24.
So today's pop is what a dead-cat bounce looks like: DEXE's RSI had fallen into deeply oversold territory (~20), short sellers who piled in near the lows are getting squeezed, and dip-buyers are grabbing a coin that's still down roughly 90% from its high. Relief, not redemption.
Why it matters beyond one coin
DEXE was a flag-bearer for the "AI crypto" basket that ran hot all year. Its implosion is a live lesson in thin-float risk: when a handful of insider or team wallets control much of the supply, a single transfer to an exchange can crater the price and detonate leveraged longs in minutes. That transmission — concentrated holder to order book to liquidation cascade — is exactly what traders chasing small-cap AI tokens keep underestimating.
The one thing that flips it
Watch on-chain exchange inflows. If the wallets that dumped into Binance keep feeding coins to the order book — or if DEXE can't reclaim and hold structure around the $5 area — this bounce unwinds and the July low near $1.72 comes back into play. A credible team explanation for the July 22 transfers is the other swing factor; until one lands, the credibility hole is the overhang.
