Why is Arbitrum (ARB) up ~49% in a day — on a chain Robinhood built?

Arbitrum ARB surge decoded

Every stock exchange on the planet is shut, and the loudest thing in markets right now is a layer-2 token. Arbitrum (ARB) trades near $0.197, up roughly 49% in 24 hours, per Coinpaper on Sep 6 — and about 131% since Aug 30, when it sat at $0.0844.

The catalyst: Robinhood built its chain on Arbitrum's stack

Robinhood Chain went live on July 1 using Arbitrum Orbit tech. On Sep 1 its users paid $3.75m in fees in a single day — an all-time high that, per Cryptopolitan, put it ahead of both Ethereum mainnet and Base for the day. BeInCrypto clocked the next day, Sep 2, at $4.45m. For scale: Arbitrum One, the flagship chain, collected roughly $16,000 in fees over a comparable window (Yahoo Finance, Sep 1).

Here's why that lands on the token rather than staying a Robinhood story. Arbitrum's Expansion Program takes 10% of net protocol revenue from chains built on its stack. BeInCrypto estimates roughly $320,000 reached the Arbitrum DAO on Sep 2 alone. Set that against the DAO's entire first-half 2026 income of $6.19m — and against July, when Robinhood Chain's $360,000 licensing fee was already about 35% of the DAO's income for the month. One customer has become most of the business.

The ripple

ARB is now, in practice, a levered proxy on Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ: HOOD) crypto volumes. Robinhood books the fees on its own chain; Arbitrum clips a tenth off the top. Robinhood Chain cleared over $1.5bn of DEX volume on Sep 1 — every extra billion mechanically raises the DAO's cut. Offchain Labs, which builds Arbitrum, isn't listed, so the token is the only instrument that expresses this.

The one thing that flips it

Two dated triggers, both this month. Robinhood's 90-day gas subsidy runs out in late September (Yahoo Finance) — meaning a slice of those record "fees" is Robinhood paying for its own users, and the honest demand test only starts when the subsidy stops. And on Sep 16, about 92.6m ARB unlocks to team and investors, worth roughly $18.2m at $0.197. Watch whether daily Robinhood Chain fees hold above the ~$1m mark into that unlock. If they fade first, the 10% cut shrinks with them and this reprices in a hurry.
