Why is Robinhood (HOOD) up ~12% today?

Robinhood HOOD decoded

Robinhood (NASDAQ: HOOD) jumped about +12% on Friday, trading near $106 at midday (Benzinga Pro had it +11.6% at $106.14). It's one of the loudest movers on the tape — and it's really three separate pieces of news landing on the same day.

The big one: the crypto rip

The main engine is Bitcoin. BTC was up 7.52% over 24 hours to ~$77,700 (CoinMarketCap), capping a roughly 23% week. That matters for HOOD specifically because crypto trading is one of its fattest revenue lines — when coins rip, retail piles in and Robinhood pockets more transaction fees. So this isn't just sympathy; a Bitcoin surge feeds straight into HOOD's order flow. Coinbase (COIN), the other pure crypto-fee proxy, was up ~9.7% on the same tape.

Then a Wall Street upgrade

Goldman Sachs lifted its HOOD price target to $123 from $118 and kept a Buy, citing product velocity and user monetization. The Street average sits near $124.

And a new private-markets fund

Robinhood also priced Robinhood Ventures Fund II (RVII) — a closed-end fund selling 8 million shares at $25 (about $225–255m) to give retail investors access to Y Combinator-linked private startups. That launch alone was credited with ~4.4–4.6% of the pop. On top of it, UK crypto trading is rolling out through the app via Bitstamp UK. Backdrop: Wednesday's White House crypto summit — with the CFTC's Michael Selig, the SEC's Paul Atkins and execs from Coinbase, Robinhood, Ripple and Kalshi — plus Trump pushing the CLARITY Act have the whole digital-asset complex bid.

The one risk to watch

Most of today's move is a bet on two things that can reverse: the crypto tape and a bill that hasn't passed. The CLARITY Act still needs a Senate vote — if it stalls, the regulatory tailwind unwinds fast. And because HOOD is trading as a crypto-beta name right now, it hands a chunk back if Bitcoin rolls over. Benzinga flags near-term resistance around $120.50 and support near $93 — the levels that tell you whether this holds.
