Why did Rumble (RUM) rocket ~27%? Anthropic's $13.7B compute deal, decoded

Rumble (NASDAQ: RUM) rocketed as much as ~27% to about $1.99 — Yahoo Finance has the 27% and the price; 24/7 Wall St. clocked a first ~10% pop on the initial report, with the fuller run coming once the mystery customer was named.
Here's the twist: the customer is Anthropic, the AI lab behind Claude. The Information reported that Rumble — yes, the video platform — landed a six-year, $13.7 billion compute contract. That's roughly $2.28 billion of contracted revenue a year for a company whose entire market value was a fraction of the deal's size. Rumble supplies the horsepower through Northern Data, which it's absorbing (~22,000 Nvidia H100/H200 GPUs), hosted at a data center under construction in Maysville, Georgia. Anthropic also gets a sweetener: an option to buy up to 50.8 million RUM shares at $0.01 each, tied to performance targets.
The read-through nobody's talking about
The same headline that lifted RUM knocked the incumbent "neocloud" landlords: CoreWeave (CRWV) and Nebius (NBIS) each fell ~9% (24/7 Wall St., Yahoo Finance). The transmission is direct — every dollar of Anthropic's compute budget that goes to an upstart like Rumble is a dollar that didn't go to the names the market assumed would soak up AI overflow. Anthropic has now stitched capacity together from Google, Amazon, a SpaceX-linked provider and smaller neoclouds, with commitments running into the hundreds of billions over the next decade — so who wins the next slab of compute is now a live, tradable question for CRWV and NBIS, not a settled one.
The one thing that flips it
Neither Anthropic nor Rumble has officially confirmed the contract — this is a report, not a filing. On a stock trading near $2, that's the whole risk: if confirmation doesn't land, or arrives with softer terms than the headline, the pop unwinds fast. Watch two concrete triggers: an official confirmation or 8-K from either side, and the amount of new stock Rumble issues to buy out the rest of Northern Data — heavy dilution could swallow the gain even if the deal is completely real.
