Why did Wabtec (WAB) jump ~11% today?

Wabtec (NYSE: WAB) jumped about 11% today to roughly $293 — a fresh 52-week high and one of the biggest gainers in the whole US market — after the rail-equipment maker's Q2 blew past estimates and it raised its full-year guide.
The numbers did the work. Adjusted EPS came in at $2.76, past the ~$2.63 the Street wanted and up 22% from a year ago. Revenue was $3.18B, up ~17% YoY and about $70M above the ~$3.11B consensus. This wasn't a squeak-by beat.
What actually powered it: Wabtec's Freight equipment sales rose 35% on higher locomotive deliveries — the clearest sign North American railroads are buying new locomotives again — while Digital sales jumped ~88% (helped by recent acquisitions). Crucially, adjusted operating margin expanded 1.8 points to 21.1%, so this was pricing and operating leverage, not just more volume.
The pop, though, is really about the guide raise: management lifted full-year revenue guidance to $12.30B–$12.60B and adjusted EPS to $10.60–$10.90, backed by a $30.93B backlog that gives multi-year revenue visibility. On a day the broad tape was soft and Big Tech nerves dominated, a clean beat-and-raise industrial stood out.
The ripple worth watching: Wabtec is the dominant North American locomotive builder, so a 35% jump in equipment deliveries is a demand read on its Class I customers — Union Pacific (UNP), CSX and Norfolk Southern (NSC). That kind of order pace means the rails are reopening their fleet-capex wallets, and Wabtec books the revenue as they do.
The catch: after this move WAB trades near 37x trailing earnings at a record high, so the beat-and-raise is now priced in. Wabtec itself has said tariff and input-cost headwinds should ease in the second half — if that relief doesn't show up (think Section 232 metal tariffs or softer freight volumes), the raised guide gets tested. Concrete tell to watch: whether the stock holds its breakout above the old $284.91 high, and whether the Q3 print actually delivers on the higher numbers.
