US Q2 2026 earnings, decoded: the June quarter in plain English
What US companies actually reported for Q2 2026 (the June quarter), decoded in plain English — with the fine print headlines skip. As of early August 2026. Every figure is a reported number with a source.
The backdrop. The Federal Reserve held its policy rate at 3.50–3.75% on 29 July — on a split 9–3 vote, with three members favouring a hike as inflation stays above target. Growth cooled: advance Q2 GDP was +1.5% annualized (from 2.1%). PCE inflation eased to 3.7% (core 3.3%) — softer, but still above the 2% goal.
Megacaps — big, but read the asterisks. Amazon crossed $200B of quarterly revenue for the first time (+20%), AWS +37% — but a large chunk of its $62.6B profit was a ~$53.4B non-operating gain (mostly its Anthropic stake), so the headline EPS needs that context. Microsoft (Azure +43%, EPS +32%) and Apple (+16% revenue, Services a record $30.7B) were cleaner beats. Meta grew ad revenue 27% but EPS came in below estimates, dragged by a ~$2.4B legal charge and ~$1.18B of severance (8,000 role cuts).
Payments and fintech. Visa (+14%), Mastercard (+14% revenue, +19% profit) and PayPal (+5%, raised guidance) all beat. SoFi (+43%) and Robinhood (+32%) posted record revenue — though Robinhood's profit included a ~$129M one-off. The exception was Coinbase, which slipped to a loss as crypto trading volumes cooled ~25% quarter-on-quarter.
Energy and industrials — one crude spike, felt everywhere. A crude-oil spike squeezed refining and input costs, so ExxonMobil beat on revenue but missed on adjusted EPS (refinery maintenance). Boeing stayed loss-making (a $280M Air Force One charge) but flagged a record $715B backlog and its best jet deliveries since 2018.
Guidance raised this quarter (companies' own words): PayPal (FY26 EPS), SoFi (FY26 revenue $4.75–4.85B) and Bloom Energy (FY26 revenue $3.9–4.2B).
Also on the calendar this week: ADP private payrolls and ISM services, then Friday's monthly jobs report.
