Why did Navin Fluorine hit a lifetime high today? Q1 profit just doubled

What happened
Navin Fluorine International jumped as much as 8% on Thursday to a fresh lifetime high of ₹8,240 on the NSE, before easing to around ₹8,053 (up ~5.8%) by late morning. The trigger was simple: the specialty-chemicals maker's June-quarter profit more than doubled, and it did so across every part of the business — not one lucky line item.
Why it jumped
The numbers were genuinely big, not just "good". For Q1 FY27 (quarter ended June 2026), Navin reported:
- Net profit of ₹243.3 crore, up 107.7% YoY from ₹117.2 crore a year ago — it literally doubled.
- Revenue of ~₹1,045 crore, up about 44% YoY from ₹725 crore.
- EBITDA of ~₹357 crore, up roughly 72% YoY, with the operating margin expanding about 565 basis points to ~34%.
That last line is the real tell. Profit growing twice as fast as sales means Navin isn't just selling more — it's selling richer stuff at fatter margins. The board also cleared a ₹90 crore capex to scale up its Advanced Materials products at Surat from lab stage to commercial. Brokerages including JM Financial and Elara nudged up their FY27–29 earnings estimates after the beat.
The business
Navin isn't a one-trick refrigerant company any more, and that's the point. Its money now comes from three engines: High Performance Products (inorganic fluorides and refrigerant gases like R-32, used in air-conditioners), a fast-growing CDMO arm (it makes complex molecules under contract for global pharma and agrochem majors — the "China+1" play), and its core specialty chemicals. So today's jump reflects the whole engine firing, with CDMO and high-value fluorine chemistry doing the heavy lifting rather than a single order.
Is it expensive?
Yes — and you have to say it plainly. Even after doubling profit, Navin trades at a trailing P/E of roughly 58 on a market cap near ₹40,000 crore. That's a valuation that already assumes years of fast growth land perfectly. For context, larger fluorochemicals peer SRF trades at about 43x earnings (market cap ~₹78,000 crore), while Gujarat Fluorochemicals sits around 60x (~₹50,000 crore). So Navin is pricier than the bigger, more diversified SRF and roughly in line with Gujarat Fluoro — you're paying a premium for the CDMO growth story, not buying it cheap.
Who else it touches
- Fluorochemicals peers — a clean beat here brightens sentiment for SRF, Gujarat Fluorochemicals, Aarti Industries and Deepak Nitrite ahead of their own numbers.
- The R-32 refrigerant chain — rising demand ties into AC makers like Blue Star, Voltas and Amber Enterprises as older gases get phased out.
- The China+1 CDMO theme — global drug and crop-chemical firms shifting supply out of China is the tailwind behind Navin's contract-manufacturing pipeline.
The one risk
Specialty-chemical earnings are lumpy — they swing on product mix, one-off pricing and how fast new plants ramp. At a P/E near 58, there's almost no cushion: one soft quarter or a delayed CDMO ramp, and a stock priced for perfection can give back a chunk fast. The doubling was real; the valuation now demands they keep doing it.
