Why did Dhoot Transmission pop ~38% on its market debut today?

Dhoot Transmission (NSE/BSE: DHOOTTRANS) listed today at ₹1,200 on the BSE — a 37.77% premium to its ₹871 issue price — and at ₹1,193.80 on the NSE, up 37.06%, as reported by Business Standard and Angel One. On a ₹871 share, that's about ₹329 of day-one gain handed to anyone who got an allotment.
Why it ran
This wasn't retail froth — the demand was real and lopsided. The IPO closed subscribed 74.21× overall, but the split is the whole story: the QIB (big-institution) slice was bid well over 150×, versus just about 8× from retail. When institutions chase a book that hard, the listing almost has to gap up — there simply aren't enough shares to go round at the offer price. The grey market had been pointing to a ~30% pop for days; the actual open beat it.
What are they buying? Dhoot makes wiring harnesses and electrical distribution systems — effectively the nervous system of a vehicle — for both petrol/diesel (ICE) and electric-vehicle platforms. That EV hook is the pitch: an EV needs far more, and higher-voltage, wiring than a combustion car, so every shift toward EVs means more content (and revenue) per vehicle for a harness maker. Part of the fresh-issue cash — about ₹150 crore — is earmarked for two new plants in Jhajjar (Haryana) and Hosur (Tamil Nadu) to add capacity.
The read-through
A 74×, QIB-led book at this valuation quietly re-rates the whole listed wiring-harness shelf. The obvious yardstick is Samvardhana Motherson, India's heavyweight in exactly this business — a hot Dhoot tape tells you public-market appetite for auto-electrical and EV-component suppliers is running warm right now, not cold.
The one risk
Listing-day fireworks fade more often than not. The concrete thing to watch is the anchor-investor lock-in: half of the anchor shares unlock after 30 days (around mid-September) and the rest after 90 days — fresh supply landing on a stock that's already up ~38%. If it can't hold above its ₹1,200 debut level once anchors are free to sell, today's premium is the easy money, not the floor.
